TCNJ Graduates 22 From Hillsborough

Also, Steven Yarmoska heads to MD-PhD program and Meredith Mayes picks up bachelor's and masters degrees at Rensselaer.

The following 22 local students were among 1,956 students who participated in the 2013 Commencement Ceremony at The College of New Jersey on May 16 and May 17 on campus in Lions' Stadium:

Steven Karl Yarmoska of Hillsborough graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Duke University, Durham, N.C., on May 12.  

He completed a major in biomedical engineering and minors in chemistry and biology.  Yarmoska was also a member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society and his efforts in independent research allowed him to graduate with Departmental Distinction. He was a Pratt Undergraduate Research Fellow in the Biomedical Interferometry and Optical Spectroscopy (BIOS) Laboratory.  As a Pratt Fellow, Yarmoska  assisted on an ex vivo clinical trial with clinical collaborators at Duke Medical Center to non-invasively use near-infrared light to diagnose pre-cancerous conditions in cervical tissue.  The results of this study are currently being prepared for publication. 

Yarmoska  has accepted a position in the M.D.-Ph.D. combined degree program at the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Texas at Austin.  He plans to pursue his doctoral studies in the Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Laboratory. 

He graduated in 2009 from Hillsborough High School.

Meredith Mayes received a bachelor's in Environmental Engineering and master's in Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May.
