Poll: Should Residents be Required to Say They'll Be Taping a Meeting?

A policy revision would require residents to obtain permission from the district before videotaping a meeting.

Several board members noted that the meetings are a public forum—and public record— while others noted that some parents video tape their children being honored at those meetings. Others said that, while the board or governing body can't deny a request, the board members should know they're being videotaped.

It's a question that can apply to government meetings as well as school board proceedings. In fact, a similar issue in Pine Hill Borough made it to the state Superior Court—with the court agreeing that the resident in question had the right to videotape a meeting, despite the council's objections.
