During the school year, the Hillsborough High School Math Team competes in state, regional and national competitions. Over 100 students participate on a rotating basis at various math events.

Each month, the team participates in the highly competitive Central Jersey Math League (CJML). In the first four meets held this year, Hillsborough’s team placed third in the September competition, second in the October competition, first in the November competition, and third place in December.

During the November competition, team members Trisha Datta, Bertha Wang and Chris Zhang each earned perfect scores.

On Nov. 16, eight of the team’s top students participated in the Princeton University Math Competition. This invitation-only event pitted Hillsborough students against teams from 74 other US and international high schools. The HHS team performed extremely well and placed ninth in their division. The team took sixth place in the power round, which was held prior to the actual competition.

Chris Zhang also took top 10 honors in his two individual rounds.
