11 Hillsborough Students Graduate at Rider

Students at Duke, UMass, Fairleigh Dickinson, SUNY and Tufts also graduate.

Rider University celebrated its 148th Commencement with more than 1,300 undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees awarded.

Steven Karl Yarmoska of Hillsborough graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Duke University, Durham, N.C., on May 12.  

He completed a major in biomedical engineering and minors in chemistry and biology.  Steven was also a member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society and his efforts in independent research allowed him to graduate with Departmental Distinction. He was a Pratt Undergraduate Research Fellow in the Biomedical Interferometry and Optical Spectroscopy (BIOS) Laboratory.  

As a Pratt Fellow, Steven assisted on an ex vivo clinical trial with clinical collaborators at Duke Medical Center to non-invasively use near-infrared light to diagnose pre-cancerous conditions in cervical tissue.

 The results of this study are currently being prepared for publication. Steven has accepted a position in the M.D.-Ph.D. combined degree program at the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Texas at Austin.

 He plans to pursue his doctoral studies in the Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Laboratory. 

He graduated in 2009 from Hillsborough High School.

Hillsborough student Donna Lagos was among a record number of graduates —3,169—presented with diplomas at UMass Lowell's 2013 Commencement exercises on May 18 at the TsongasCenter at UMass Lowell.

For the second year, UMass Lowell held two Commencement ceremonies because of the increase in graduates - up more than 250 since last year and more than 1,000 since 2007, a period that has seen a 40 percent increase in enrollment and rising retention. It is the sixth year in a row that a record number received degrees.

Fairleigh Dickinson University's College at Florham has released the names of students who have graduated as of May 2013 on undergraduate and graduate levels, including Alexa Guaimano, Briana Dixon-Kale, Casey Koplik, Kim Fajardo and Robert Schweitzer.

Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metropolitan Campus has released the names of students who have graduated as of May 2013 on undergraduate and graduate levels, including Hillsborough students Marco Zanfardino, Nauman Chaudry and Sandra Bernard.

Andrew Messina is among the 998 students who graduated from SUNY Oneonta following the spring 2013 semester. The college's commencement ceremony was held on Saturday, May 18.

Messina earned a bachelor's degree in Meteorology.

Sheila Davis was one of more than 3,000 students graduated from Tufts University to receive degrees on May 19, during a university-wide commencement ceremony with Claude Steele, social psychologist and I. James Quillen Dean of the School of Education at Stanford University, as the speaker.

Dave graduated with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations.
