With school back in full swing, the high school is celebrating the start of the theater season with some stars from the Broadway stage.
To kick off the new year, Theatre is having an opening night concert Monday night at 7 in the auditorium to celebrate the announcement of the 2012-13 season.
This year, the group will be having Broadway guest stars from shows like “Les Miserables,” “Hairspray,” “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” “In the Heights,” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie” are scheduled to perform.
“We hope that people realize these Broadway professionals are here, in Hillsborough, because they believe we have an excellent program. They see that we are training the stars of tomorrow,” said BJ Solomon.
Hillsborough High School Theatre is an award-winning, nationally recognized high school program. It is ranked as one of the top 40 high school theatre programs by the American High School Theatre Festival.
This is the group's second opening night concert; both shows were produced by BJ Solomon
“It was created at the suggestion of a parent who thought it would be a great way to announce our theatre season at the high school," Solomon said. "It is wonderful to bring Broadway performers to Hillsborough. HHS Theatre loves to provide that kind of entertainment to the Hillsborough Community.”
“The concert is important because it really kicks off our season. It also allows us to make the community aware that we sell season tickets to our season.” Solomon said.
Tickets for the opening night concert are $5 at the door on the night of the concert. Season tickets are available to purchase, as well.
"Since all of our productions are funded by our ticket sales, not tax dollars, season tickets help us move forward financially in planning our big budget, high quality entertainment productions,” Solomon said.
Last year’s program had 25 students and put on four shows, including “Hillsborough Shorts” which are one-act plays written and directed by the students of the theatre program.
