Hillsborough Residents Charged with Burglary, Drug Offenses

Alleged incidents occurred between September and November.

Two Hillsborough residents and a Bridgewater resident have been charged with offenses related to burglaries in Hillsborough Township and drug offenses, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Aaron Matias, 29, of Claudia Road, is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. His brother, Justin Matias, 27, of Bridgewater, is charged with receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Adam Fecso, 24, also of Claudia Road, is charged with of burglary.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, detectives from the investigating a series of burglaries that occurred in the daytime hours in September. The investigation determined the burglary took place after those allegedly involved gained entry to the homes via rear windows, then allegedly took jewelry, rare coins, laptop computers, game consoles, and small electronic devices from the homes. The burglaries continued in October and November, according to the prosecutor’s office.

After interviewing several witnesses, detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the prosecutor’s office developed several potential suspects, including the Matias brothers and Fecso.

The subsequent investigation led detectives to conduct a motor vehicle stop of Aaron Matias’ vehicle on Dec. 13. His brother, Justin Matias, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Detectives reported taking both into custody after observing 50 bags of heroin in the vehicle, according to the release.

Detectives then executed a search warrant for the vehicle, and reported recovering property allegedly stolen during one of the burglaries. Detectives searched the Claudia Road residence, and reported recovering a significant amount of jewelry, two laptop computers and a large coin collection.

Some of the recovered property has since been identified in connection to a residential burglary allegedly committed in Edison Township, Middlesex County, earlier this year, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The burglary investigation is still ongoing, with detectives attempting to link recovered property to burglarized homes.

All three defendants are currently lodged at the Somerset County Jail in default of bail set by Judge Robert B. Reed. Aaron Matias’ bail was set at $20,000 with 10 percent option to apply. Justin Matias’ bail was set at $10,000 with the 10 percent option to apply. Adam Fecso’s bail was set at $15,000 with the 10 percent option to apply.
