Early Morning Fire Renders Bloomingdale Drive Condo Unit Uninhabitable

Severe thunderstorms cited as cause for fire.

A Bloomingdale Drive home has been declared unhabitable after an early morning fire cause by a lightening strike, Hillsborough Township Police said.

According to the police, lightening struck the roof at 48-44 Bloomingdale Drive Friday morning, during severe thundestorms that moved through town. The strike ignited a fire in the roof and attic of the unit, owned by Matthew and Alison Mingle.

Several nearby units were temporarily evacuated while Hillsborough Township Fire Companies No. 1, 2 and 3, worked on the blaze. The fire was able to be contained to one unit in the condominium complex, though that unit was deemed uninhabitable.

All other residents returned to their homes, though police did not have details about the Mingles.

Emergency personel responding to the scene included the Hillsborough Township Police, Hillsborough Fire Companies No. 1, 2 and 3, the Hillsborough Rescue Squad, the Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management, the Hillsborough Township Building Department, the Manville Fire Department, the Finderne Fire Department, the Neshanic Fire Department, the Millstone Fire Department, the Montgomery Fire Department and the Somerville Rescue Squad.
