Black Bear Seen Near Municipal Complex

Police issue alert to remind residents to avoid contact with bear.

Hillsborough police said a black bear was sighted in the township by the municipal building this morning.

Bears are frequently reported in Hillsborough in the spring, however, this is the earliest report of a sighting in Hillsborough in several years. The bears often migrate between the Pinelands and northern New Jersey's mountains, crossing through the township's less-developed neighborhoods or along the rivers.

Police reminded residents to stay away from any bears seen — and importantly, not to feed them. There are precautions to take if coming in close proximity of a bear to avoid injury.
