Rutgers' Feast of the King's Tax, Part 1: Renaissance Faire

It's that time of year-

Scarlet Cross is hosting its annual spring "Feast of the
King's Tax!" The festival is a two part event taking place
on Saturday, March 29th, 2014.

The first part of the festival is the Renaissance Faire.
Gates open to the public at 9:30am, and admission is free!
Formal ceremonies will kick off at 10am with activities like
the Maypole Dance. The faire continues until 5pm when the
gates will close and guests are encouraged to head indoors for
the second portion of the event: the Feast!

The event is family friendly and will host many outlets of
entertainment. Throughout the day there will be live performances
by dance troupes, singers and storytellers, all of whom are
Rutgers students or alumni. Vendors will be selling their wares in
different stalls, and members of the Scarlet Cross will be suited
up in armor to battle it out in the fighting tournament.

This year, Scarlet Cross will be celebrating the Renaissance Faire
with a mystical theme. The faire will be influenced by the story of
Tamlin, which has been sung about in Scottish ballads since the 15th century. The tale combines the control of an evil queen,
the magic of faeries, and the power of true love. Come out and
see the story told by our very own club members!

Scarlet Cross is a collegiate branch of Markland, a non-profit
historical organization that is dedicated to the education of
community, colleagues and peers through medieval reenactment.
