Tornado Watch for Entire State

In effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with wind advisory through midnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the entire state until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The storm system currently rolling through the Northeast is also causing tornado watches during the same period in New York, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, according to the service as of 12:13 p.m. 

The tornado watch is in effect for all 21 New jersey counties, while a wind advisory exists in most areas, including Sussex, Morris, Somerset, Passaic and Warren counties through midnight.

The service says the highest threat is from this afternoon through this evening, and that the potential will be enhanced in areas of heavy showers or thunderstorms. Downed trees, limbs, and power lines are all potential hazards. 

Many police departments throughout the area have issued alerts asking residents to travel with extra care while driving.
