Hurricane Irene: Flooding Closes Many County Roads

Rain has closed most roads into and out of South Somerset County.

Somerset County has closed most of the roads in the southern portion of the area due to flooding.

With Hurricane Irene bearing down on the state on Saturday—though rains have stopped so far this morning—including New Center Road, River Road and Millstone River Road, most of the roads are impassable, the county said. Some roads, including Blackwells Mills Causeway and Griggstown Causeway closed about four hours after the rains began Saturday.

Hillsborough Police are urging residents to stay off roads that are open, due to numerous flooded roads and hazardous travel conditions, they said.
