How Do We Know When It's Spring?

Tell us what your sure signs of spring are.

Spring arrived in Hillsborough at 7:02 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, though it's been colder than usual for the first days of spring.

But with winter gone, many people have favorite rituals or sights to look for as spring begins to fully bloom.

We asked our friends of Facebook to finish the sentence: "You know it's springtime in Hillsborough when_____________"

Here are some of the answers:

Sly added rec baseball is in full swing (no pun intended, we assume) as another sure sign of spring in Hillsborough.

Gary Truelove: "It's still in the low 30s." Sad fact!

Tammy Prosser Quick and Bill Drummer get their signs of spring from feathered friends. "You can hear the birds chirping first thing in the morning," Quick said. Drummer added it's spring in Hillsborough when there's "a chorus of morning bird songs."

Stefanie DiStefano Wehner: "My dog stays outside longer that two minutes." (her friend Jack Logston shot back he knows it's spring "When Stefanie goes outside!").

Jeff Harcarik: "Fishing Therapy Unlimited is on the river!" We thought this meant endless hours in the Zen-full bliss of fly fishing, but it's actually his business, which is endless hours of Zen-full bliss fly fishing...or maybe casting.

Katherine McKeon Beggiato said she knows when the forsythia blooms, and Family Foot & Ankle Specialists said, "We begin to see a lot more ankle injuries."
