You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Hillsborough Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
Overview: Angelica’s Café, on Old York Road, features mostly breakfast and lunch options, with egg dishes, multiple kinds of salads and sandwiches. Owner Richard Angelica said he has been at this location for two years now. “I like the community, and I like the area,” he said. “This is a nice town.”
Décor: With several tables for eating in, the café invites people for both eat-in and take-out. In addition, there is a counter where patrons can sit and watch television or just enjoy their meals. Decorations of the season adorn the walls, as do coffee shop photos and other pictures.
The Drinks: As a café, this is a non-alcoholic place with a wide selection of sodas, iced teas, coffees and other drinks.
Entrees: According to Angelica, his most unique sandwich is the Cajun Chicken Wrap—with grilled Cajun chicken breast, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, pepper jack cheese and creamy Cajun sauce—while the most popular is usually the Roast Beef Sloppy Joe. But his other sandwiches don’t do too badly. I ordered the Balsamic Chicken Ciabatta ($6.95) with its chicken cutlet, roasted pepper and fresh mozzarella—good combination of ingredients, crispy chicken and melted cheese, absolutely perfect. And my lunch partner’s Buffalo Chicken Wrap ($6.95) was not too spicy, but did have that buffalo feel with its Frank’s Hot Sauce. Angelica often makes the food himself, and, because the business does a great deal of catering, all the food is made in house. “We do more catering than walk-ins, with a lot of backyard barbecues in the spring,” he said. “And all of our sandwiches are house favorites, we have a full menu with a nice selection.”
Desserts: The business is known for its ice cream, which it brings out in the spring, this year looking to sell it from March 21 through about Oct. 6. The business offers several different kinds of ice cream, but, most importantly, serves all kinds of sundaes with cookie toppings, hot fudge, whipped cream, M&Ms and other treats. During the spring and summer, the business stays open later in the evenings to serve the ice cream.
Service: Wait time is non-existent as you order at the front and seat yourself, but there are not many tables. Angelica said he gets mostly local people dining in, and lots of take-out, but the sandwiches and other items are made quickly while you wait.
