Fit, Fun and Education at Powerhouse Gym May 14

Day's activities will include a cancer benefit walk/run, music, rides, exercise classes, demonstrations and more.

Keeping fit while having fun is the theme of a special day of activity being held Saturday, May 14—with a rain date of Sunday, May 15—at Powerhouse Gym.

“Fit and Fun Day” kicks off with an 8 a.m. 3K Walk/Run to benefit the American Cancer Fund (ACF). That will be followed by a day filled with music, rides, exercise classes, vendors and demonstrations for the entire family in the parking lot of the gym at 129 Stryker Lane.

Ken Turash, who owns the Powerhouse Gym with his wife Melody, who is a lifelong township resident, explained, “I know the importance of community outreach and being connected with the community.”

While the gym has been involved in many community activities over the years, this will be the first of this magnitude. About a year ago Turash approached Henry Stryder of the ACF, a local cancer organization whose mission is to educate, support and empower those whose lives have been touched by cancer, with the idea to do some type of fundraiser. It grew from there.

“I think everyone is affected or has someone or knows of someone who has cancer,” said Turash, whose father died of cancer at an early age. “The ACF focuses on educating people about cancer and helping people to go to the right places for information and support.”
