Here are five bits of trivia about the Smurfs movie, courtesy of IMDB.com:

  1. During filming, the production team used a different colored dot to represent each Smurf, so the actors had to remember which dot corresponded to their character.
  2. The Smurfs are seven and a half inches high—any larger would deviate from what they are, and smaller would make it hard to interact with real-world objects.
  3. Since the Smurfs began as a comic book, the movie contains an homage to its roots.
  4. The “Smurfalator” had a three-month build time, since parts had to be found via eBay, Craigslist, flea markets and garage sales.
  5. The movie features three “new” Smurfs, which are the first to appear since creator Pierre “Peyo” Culliford’s 1992 death.
