Outdoor Activities for Cooler Days

As fall approaches, activities take an outdoor theme.

As fall approaches—and stiflingly hot temperatures give way to cooler days—the message for many organizations around town is "Get Outside".

That sentiment's seen in several of today's activities, whether at the , or the. With , and , there's something for everyone.

Here's what you need to know today:

  1. You Need to Know About Water Gardens: The Leonard J Buck Garden, 11 Layton Road, Far Hills, . Veteran gardener and author Judy Glattstein will cover options for ponds, marshes, wet meadows and container gardens. The workshop is $20 to attend, so you’ll want to call 908-234-2677 to let them know you’re coming.
  2. You Need to Know About Pets: The Coalition for Animals hosts a . Pet contests, dog walks, live music and more are on the bill. Entry is $25 per family on the day of the event.
  3. You Need to Know About the Sourlands: hosts . In addition to a multimedia presentation by Sourlands Planning Council member Andrea Bonette, Sourlands expert Charlie Clark will lead a follow-up hike. The event is free and open to all.
  4. You Need to Know Where to Explore: hosts an exploration of . Space is limited and registration is required for the $8 per person workshop, so you’ll want to call 908-722-3700 to secure a spot.
  5. You Need to Know About Little Things: Lord Stirling Park’s Environmental Education Center hosts . The program is geared for children ages seven to nine, and highlights the lifecycles of the creatures. The session is $9 per person, so you’ll want to call 908-766-2489 to register.
