Finding Fitness Around Town

Today, we found five places to get a head start on that fitness resolution.

The most popular New Year’s resolutions tend to involve fitness and weight loss, and, with days of feasting behind us, there’s little question about why.

Yesterday, Take Five offered. But if you’re still flopped on the couch, it’s time to rouse yourself from the turkey, sides and dessert stupor and get moving.

There are a number of places around town where you can get your move on, whether it’s something with  a paid membership, a class-by-class basis, or taking advantage of the streets, sidewalks and parks in town.

Here’s what you need to know to get moving during holiday week:

  1. You Need to Know to Take a Hike: The offers several miles of trails for mountain biking, hiking or trail running and it’s free to use.
  2. You Need to Know It’s for the Ladies: Ladies who aren’t as comfortable with using a traditional gym, or simply prefer a women-only environment should look to . The women’s only gym offers classes and circuit training.
  3. You Need to Know to Go in the Water: If pool workouts are more appealing—whether it’s traditional swimming or a low-impact water aerobics—the Hillsborough YMCA and are the spots to hit. Both have classes, cardio equipment and other offers for the days where you don’t want to hit the water.
  4. You Need to Know About Yoga, Kettlebell and TRX: , at 706B on Route 206 South, offers the two workout systems and the ancient stretching and relaxation practice in a small, personal setting—and has beginners training for each one. The studio doesn’t require a membership to attend, but you’ll have to sign up for classes and pay for them via the Yoga Matt website.
  5. You Need to Know About Traditional Gyms: Hillsborough has two— and . You’ll need to stop into either in order to obtain a membership.
