NEWS RELEASE

ROTARY CLUB of HILLSBOROUGH

celebrates Rotary’s founding

Rotary, a global network of community volunteers is one of the largest and most influential international humanitarian service organizations worldwide. Founded in Chicago on February 23, 1905, today over 1.2 million members belong to 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

The Rotary club of Hillsborough with 57 active members has worked hard over the past year on various projects to improve the lives of the individuals needing our assistance. The three major fund raising events were, The Hillsborough Rotary Fair, 2013 HD Motorcycle Raffle, and 2013 Golf Outing. The success of these fund raising events allowed the membership to donate funds to the following:

• Hillsborough Township Food Pantry

• Hillsborough Township/Manville Schools 3rd grade dictionary project

• Operation Shoebox & Operation Chillout

• Special Needs/Family Fun Day

• Homes for Hope

• Annual Easter Egg Hunt

• Veterans Appreciation Day

• Steps Together

Rotary members, as volunteers, conduct projects to address today’s humanitarian challenges, including illiteracy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water, and environmental concerns while encouraging high standards in all vocations. Rotary members strive to build goodwill and peace, and provide humanitarian service in their communities and throughout the world. Rotary Club of Hillsborough joins Rotary clubs around the world to recognize the day, also known as Rotary’s “World Understanding and Peace Day.”

Rotary clubs have often celebrated the day by participating in service projects including conducting free dental clinics for senior and low-income individuals, mentoring youth, and raising funds for polio eradication efforts.

If you would like to attend an upcoming Hillsborough Rotary meeting as a guest, we meet every Wednesday evening at 6:15pm at Pheasants Landing Restaurant in Hillsborough.
