Enjoy the Sourlands with Tours, Presentations

Sourland Planning Council to host events, bus tours through the summer.

What do birds, cycling and diabase rock have in common? They are all part of a series of Sourland Mountain-inspired educational and cultural events sponsored by the Sourland Planning Council (SPC) during the spring and summer of 2013.  Most of the events will be held at the Hopewell Train Station from 7-9 pm from May through September.

Admission is free and no registration is required. Doors open at 6:45; first come, first seated.  

May 2 – Birds of the Sourlands by Sharyn Magee, Trustee of the Washington Crossing Audubon Society.

May 17 – Natural Gas Pipelines by Tracy Carluccio, SPC Trustee.

June 6 – A Community-based, Comprehensive Deer Management Plan – by members of the Sourland Planning Council’s Deer Management Project.

June 28 – Sourlands' Perspectives: History, Geology and on Two Wheels - Sourlands Geology and History Slideshow by Andrea Bonette, SPC Trustee, and “Climbing Through Life” a reading and book-signing by Michael Heffler, SPC Trustee.

August 2 – Open Space Map of the Sourlands by Kevin Burkman, GIS Expert.

August 15 – Film showing: The Central Park Effect – “spectacular wildlife footage capturing the changing seasons…this lyrical documentary transports the viewer to a dazzling world that goes all but unnoticed by the 38 million people who visit the park each year.”   

September 15 – Swallow Hill Alpaca Farm Field Trip, Hillsborough, NJ. Join us for a tour of Pat and John Flanagan’s hillside farm; meet the alpacas, experience spinning and weaving first hand. (This event will not be held at the Train Station; meet at Swallow Hill Farm, 583 Montgomery Road, Hillsborough, at 2 pm.)

In addition to the “Train Station Series," SPC has two other exciting programs planned for this spring and summer:

May 4 - Sourlands: A Threatened Treasure - Bus Tour of the Western Sourland Mountain Region: Experience the magic and rich history of the Sourlands.  Meet at East Amwell Township Municipal Building 1070 Rte. 202/31, Ringoes, NJ. Tour: $20 (includes $5 admission to Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead. Please register and pay in advance by calling 609-466-0701 or email Sourlandsbustour@aol.com.

July 2013 –  Premier of the Sourlands Video Series Part One – Join SPC in celebrating the release of the first segment of an exciting video series portraying the beauty and importance of the Sourlands.
