Off-Duty Cop, Father Resuscitate 9-Year-Old Boy

Victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center.

A 9-year-old Montclair boy nearly drowned in a pool at a Wertsville Road residence Saturday, but was resuscitated by his father and Hillsborough Police Officer Christopher Weckenman, according to police.

The incident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. when the boy was swimming in a built-in pool at the residence. Police responding to the report of a drowning found Weckenman, a friend of the resident's and off-duty at the time, and the boy's father administering CPR.

They were able to restore the boy's pulse, but he was not breathing on his own and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center by Hillsborough Rescue Squad members.

The boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, police said.

Additional information on the boy's current status is not available at this time.
