Talk of the Town

Got Spring on Your Mind?

Maybe you're talking about March Madness—whatever it is, tell us the Talk of the Town.

Since launching the new Talk of the Town feature a few weeks ago, we've been enjoying the feedback from readers on what's going on. Each week, we ask readers and friends on the Hillsborough Patch Facebook page for the topics they're discussing with friends. Are you talking about your garden or your college basketball team? Maybe your spring break plans or Girl Scout cookies. Whatever is is, tell us about it in the comments box below—it might be the Talk of the Town.

Talk of the Town

Police Patrols Are Talk of the Town

Also, a reader asks about affordable places to dine out.

We asked our friends on Hillsborough Patch's Facebook page what they are talking to their neighbors about. Diane Jones said she has been talking to her neighbors and friends about why so many local businesses come and go.  "I've been here since 1976 and we don't seem to be able to keep our businesses going," she wrote. "They all pick up and leave." Do you support local businesses? Have you been talking up a local shop lately? Tell us in the comments box.   A reader sent a note asking about police patrols, noting she's been seeing a lot more cars patrolling or stopping drivers in recent weeks—which sparked a lot of conversation on our Facebook page. Some said they haven't noticed any changes, but quite a few said they've noticed more police…

I am very happy to see them on east mountain rd. I live on that road and most cars speed. Seeing the patrols may stop them.   more ›

Since launching the new Talk of the Town feature a few weeks ago, we've been enjoying the feedback from readers on what's going on. Many people are talking about why all the good restaurants and even shops are leaving the town. We need some good places other than pizza and burgers for folks making under 100,000$ salaries. I've been here since 1976 and we don't seem to be able to keep our businesses going. They all pick up and leave.   more ›

Suspended Teacher, Breakfast Fundraiser are Talk of the Town

There's lots to talk to your neighbors about—here's what readers told us was on their minds.

Each week, we ask readers to tell us what they're talking to friends and neighbors about for Talk of the Town. This week, we also picked up a clue: Monday's story about the suspension of Hillsborough High School teacher Jeffrey Kampf has garnered dozens of comments, and it's certainly a topic of discussion around town. Details are few whenever officials take action against an employee—privacy rights prevent much information from being provided—but many people seem most concerned about the Board of Education's actions, with five members abstaining because of a lack of understanding what lead up to the suspension. A three-member majority of those voting proved enough for the suspension, but many have written in support of Kampf and …

Spring Break, a Play, New Eatery Are Talk of the Town

And a local band makes an appearance in town.

We asked our friends on Hillsborough Patch's Facebook page what they are talking to their neighbors about, whether it was the Academy Awards, school budgets, or maybe a big pothole growing on Route 206. Here's what they said:  Mike Johnson said he was talking to friends about "Play It Again, Sam" at the Somerset Valley Players' Theater. "There are still two full weekends left of this fabulous show," he said. "To be fair, I'm in it but that doesn't mean I'm biased," he added, but promised a good time for those seeing it—which seems about right: the Players' have always done comedy right and Woody Allen produced a good script. Tickets available on the theater's website.   Patricia Sanguiliano said she's waiting for the opening of the Tender …

I thought I saw, while driving up 206, that Pizza Hut and an Asian place (next to Great Clips) are now open. Given how hard it is to notice things like that while navigating 206 traffic, I think it would be nice for Hillsborough Patch to provide a little fanfare for those businesses and others we might have missed.   more ›

What's the Talk of the Town This Week?

We're asking what you're talking about for our new weekly feature.

Last week, we featured readers' comments on what they're talking to others about in a new feature we call "Talk of the Town." It's time for us to ask again what you're chatting about with your friends, co-workers and neighbors this week. Is it the Academy Awards? Maybe you've been discussing school budgets, "Beauty and the Beast"— or a big chuckhole growing on Route 206...tell us what's on your mind for this week's Talk of the Town feature.

Talk of the Town

Vendor Fair, Bar Bands and Rising Real Estate are Talk of the Town

We asked our Facebook friends what they're talking to neighbors about.

We asked our friends on Hillsborough Patch's Facebook page what they are talking to their neighbors about, whether it was what they did over the weekend, an Academy-award nominated movie at Hillsborough Cinemas, or perhaps their new property tax assessments. Here's what they posted: What about you? What are you talking to your neighbors about? Share your Talk of the Town in the comments box below, and on Hillsborough Patch's Facebook page—and watch for the discussion to continue next week.
