Hillsborough Township will celebrate those who have served the United States in the armed forces a day after the rest of the country officially recognized its veterans. The township's fourth annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held Monday night at 7 at the municipal complex's Garden of Honor. The ceremony itself will be held no matter the weather, but it will be moved inside to the multipurpose room in the case of inclement weather. A brief reception of participating veterans and their spouses will be held immediately following the ceremony. The township is asking those who attend to bring a canned good to be donated to the township's food bank.

The late Peter J. Biondi was Mr. Hillsborough. From listening to residents at the Wawa to overseeing the township’s maturation from an awakening rural community to a bustling suburb, Biondi, who served as a township committeeman and mayor, was dedicated to maintaining and improving what he called “The Good Life” in Hillsborough. That’s was just one of the reasons why on Saturday morning the municipal complex, whose construction he oversaw, was named in his honor. Before an audience of nearly 200, elected officials, including Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, Rep. Leonard Lance, State Senator Kip Bateman, Somerset County freeholders and Hillsborough officials praised Biondi, who died at age 69 in November 2011, just two days after he was elected to …

The municipal complex will be dedicated in the memory of the late Pete Biondi in a ceremony on Saturday morning. The complex at the corner of South Branch Road and Beekman Lane was renamed the Peter J. Building Building by the Township Committee on Tuesday night. Biondi, who died in November 2011, was a state assemblyman and served on the Township Committee from 1983 to 1993. He served as mayor from 1986 to 1993 and was a Somerset County freeholder before he was elected to the Assembly. Biondi, 69, died two days after winning re-election for an eighth term to the 16th Legislative District, of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Mayor Carl Suraci remember Biondi as “Mr. Hillsborough.” “The late Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi was a pillar of our community…

Innovative plan will save taxpayers about $100K a year.
It’s power for the people. Before a powerful thunderstorm rolled through Thursday night, township officials cut the ribbon on an innovative project that will save Hillsborough taxpayers more than $100,000 a year. The $3.6 million project, of which the township only had to pay $1.9 million, included the installation of solar panels on the roof of the municipal complex and the Department of Public Works building and the upgrading of the HVAC and lighting systems at the municipal complex. Ted Huesing, an account representative from Siemens that oversaw the project, said Hillsborough was a “pioneer.” School districts have undertaken similar projects, he said, but Hillsborough is the first municipality. The solar panels will provide 25 percent …

HVAC units were installed on the Municipal Complex roof Monday.
The Hillsborough Municipal Complex’s roof renovations continued Monday, as its new Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning unit was installed on the building. The construction occurred while the building was closed for the President’s Day holiday. It’s part of a $2.1 million project that will replace the building roof, install the new HVAC system and place solar panels on the building. The agreement, developed by Siemens, the Township's Energy Service Company, includes replacing the 20-year-old building roof and HVAC system, as well as installing newer energy technology. The project carries a $2,153,000 price tag, and will be funded through a $153,000 conservation block grant, and bond ordinances. The panels will have a 25-year warranty. …
