We asked some local wine shops about some options for whatever your taste.
The new year is fast approaching, and folks all over the globe will be celebrating. Here in Somerset County, we want to help you find the right drinks for your New Year’s Eve celebration. Jalapeno-flavored vodka and any drinks flavored with pomegranate also have been requested by customers, he said. Of course champagnes always are in demand, he said. Veuve Clicquot is a time-honored favorite at $42.99, DiFabrizio said. The reasonably priced Italian sparkling wine, Prosecco, is a big seller at $9.99. he said. Gary’s Wine and Marketplace, which boasts a location in …

With the holidays here, pet owners should take precautions so that the holiday festivities are happy and healthy for four-legged family members, as well as the humans who love them. "Holiday foods and gifts can pose deadly hazards for family pets," said Dr. Bruce Levinston, owner of the Bridgewater Veterinary Hospital. "Each year, our hospital treats dogs and cats that are poisoned or injured from eating holiday foods, decorations and parts of toys. Pet owners can ensure that their holidays will be safe and happy for every family member by keeping these hazards away from pets and letting guests and relatives know how unsafe they are to dogs and cats." Levinston and the hospital offered tips for keeping pets safe during the holiday …
NORAD tries to predict when you might expect St. Nick coming to your home.
For 364 days out of the year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spends its time tracking airplanes, missiles, space ships—anything flying near the United States and Canada. But on Christmas Eve, a team of volunteers spends the night tracking a very special pilot: Santa Claus. "We are the only organization that has the technology, the qualifications and the people to do it," NORAD said on its website. "NORAD tracks Santa, but only Santa knows his route, which means we cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house." Santa usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west, NORAD noticed, meaning he moves from the South Pacific to New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe …

Gifts bought and wrapped, feasts prepared, movie tickets bought. The holidays are here.
The weeks of preparation paid off—the holidays are here. Hanukkah's underway, and the families who celebrate already have a head start on the preparations. Christmas is around the corner—meaning there aren't a lot of non-religious events this weekend. Luckily, many of the township churches will welcome those who don't worship regularly during the year. And, with a variety of services, there's bound to be one that fits the schedule. For those who don't celebrate Christmas, or don't celebrate religiously, there are a slew of movies—including "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Adventures of Tintin" and more—that opened this week. Here's what's going on this weekend: Christmas Eve in The Hills When/Where: Saturday 1 p.m., the first-ever …

No meat, no dairy, no problem!
Whether you shape your holiday cookies in Christmas wreaths or Hanukkah draidles, there's no denying that in December, dessert is the main event. Well, that and shopping, of course! The first time my aunt attempted to make a vegan holiday dessert, we all couldn't help but laugh at the outcome. She followed the recipe for "dessert balls," but they tasted more like desert balls—dry, flaky, leaving your mouth absolutely begging for water. That was back in December 2008. She Googled vegan desserts, and combed through a handful of recipes before landing on the famous peanut-butter dessert balls. Today, a Google search for "vegan desserts" returns more cookies, pies, bars and cakes than one could make in a year. I've followed a few over the …

Oooh, a chocolate martini (regular vodka, Godiva chocolate liqueur) garnished with a candy cane works well, too! And you can rim the glasses in tiny broken candy cane pieces also. (Pulverizing them in a zip loc bag with a hammer on top of a cutting board is a good stress reliever! LOL)   more ›
