Polls for school budget and board vote are open in the township until 9 p.m.
The polls are open, the public is voting, and within hours three seats on the Hillsborough Board of Education will be filled. Suspense remains for each of the five candidates as they await the closing of the polls and the tallying of the votes. “We tried to talk to a lot of people and get the word out about what our goals and priorities were, but I have no expectations or no way of knowing how things are going,” said BOE candidate Lorraine Soisson. Regardless of who wins, Soisson pointed out that she hopes that the public comes out in support of the budget, and that the three elected members can do everything they can to maintain quality education in the district. “It’s in the hands of the voters," she said. Added fellow candidate Aldo Martinez, “I have no expectations, and I have no idea how the vote is going to go.” It can be difficult to predict what might happen as the election unfolds throughout the afternoon and evening hours. Board candidate Allen Zdroik knows this, but regardless of what happens, he said he is confident and proud that he ran …

Five candidates generally agree on primary issues facing district at Candidates' Night forum.
On the eve of Hillsborough's school elections, the five Board of Education candidates had a lot to agree about. Despite being opponents in Tuesday’s election, the five candidates—Deena Centofanti, Aldo Martinez, Lorraine Soisson, Allen Zdroik and current board member Dana Boguszewski—agreed on many of the pertinent issues in the district, placing an emphasis not on politics, but on education in a Candidates' Night forum hosted by students at Hillsborough High School. All of the candidates agreed with the notion that communication between all parties in the district—students, teachers, parents, administrators and the board itself—is an important area of focus going forward. “We need to try and get the teachers, students and parents to all …

“I think we need to let people have a say and a vote,” Centofanti said. Agreed. The public MUST have a vote on the budget.   more ›
