Family and friends will host  a “celebration of Paige’s life” at Summit's Unitarian Church on May 21 to honor the College of New Jersey senior and Hillsborough resident whose body was discovered in the Hudson River on May 8, New Jersey 101.5 has reported. Last night's pizza and tomorrow's hair appointment could add up to a lower tax bill for those who register in the "Shop Hillsborough" program approved by the Township Committee at Tuesday's meeting. Township Mourns Losses of Residents

High school ranking, walkability and award-winning posters also make headlines this week.

The school reacted promptly to help young students deal with the death of Rosemarie Skavron. The month-long search ended Thursday when authorities positively identified a body found in the Hudson River Wednesday. Barbara Doyle inspired many students through her work organizing school plays and musicals. HHS was skipped over by U.S. News, but an article ranking high schools in Newsweek takes a better view. Despite the proximity of many apartments and condominiums to the township's shopping centers, Hillsborough still scores poorly in WalkScore.com's view. Insurance Rates and Shaun O'Hara Make Headlines This Week

Deficient bridges, local unemployment and cicada recipes also make Hillsborough news.

It may be small comfort to know our rates are the lowest in the state with the highest average auto insurance rates...it's still comfort. The township's annual art exhibit showcased local artists—especially Jennifer Lin, of Bridgewater, who painted a portrait of Shaun O'Hara for this year's addition to the public gallery. New Farmers, High School Rankings Make Hillsborough Headlines

Kim and Jon Knox moved to New Jersey to start a new farm, thanks to a new program at Duke Farms by the Northeast Organic Farming Association.  Last year, Hillsborough High School was ranked in New Jersey's Top 50 schools. This year, the school was unranked. Readers are enjoying our new feature, a collaboration with Zillow.com. A study project such savings; now, they've been realized. James Omert was promoted to sergeant, while "proud papa" Andy Chudy joined the force. Bomb Scare, Burglar on Tape, 'Action for Distraction' Top Regional News

Basilone Bowl and Ridge High's top schools' ranking also make headlines.

Writing on a bathroom wall at Woodmont Elementary School in Montville prompted a bomb scare and an evacuation of the school Wednesday morning while police and a bomb squad checked the building to be sure it was safe, police and school officials said. No bomb was found. Police have released a slideshow of an individual they are trying to identify who was on Finley Lane in Wayne at the time a home on that street was burglarized April 20. Zach Rice of Long Valley, who suffers from avascular necrosis of the hip, has joined forces with Goryeb Children's Hospital to raise funds for gaming systems for patients. Fatal Accident, Bear Sightings Make Hillsborough Headlines

Local marathoners, top taxpayers also in the news this week.

Heather Laurence Manco, 37, was killed in the accident near the half-mile marker of Route 287 south about 1 a.m. Tuesday when the SUV she was driving hit the rear corner of a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder. Compounding the tragic accident, a truck driver was killed when he tried to get to her vehicle to help.  It's not unusual for Hillsborough residents to see bears in the springtime—but it is unusual to see them in April...and around the municipal complex (our readers had a few theories about that). Another report of a bear sighting was made Wednesday, a few blocks away.   We checked the race's registrations and did a call-out on our Facebook page, and were able to pin down most of the runners shortly after Monday's deadly …

News broke of Paige Aiello's disappearance Wednesday afternoon. Three weeks after a controversial weeklong suspension, Hillsborough High School teacher Jeffrey Kampf announces plans to retire. Nico Mukendi has a shot at playing on the U.S. men's handball team at the 2016 Olympics—and a fundraising effort underway seeks to help make sure he gets a chance. Google Tablets, Zoning Change Make Headlines This Week
