District Marks 100 Days of School

Students in Hillsborough Schools celebrated the 100th day of the 2011-2012 school year.

On February 14, Amsterdam Elementary School (AMS) students and staff celebrated the 100th day of school for the 2012-2013 school year. All grades participated in different activities to honor this special occasion. The 100th day activities helped emphasize number sense and place values which are emphasized in Hillsborough Township Public Schools and a focus of instruction outlined in the Common Core Standards. The day offered a great opportunity for students to develop understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones. Students extended their understanding of the base-ten system. Ideas of counting by tens and hundreds were demonstrated with visuals and games. On February 14, students were …

Share the Love: We Want to Hear Your Stories

The search for Valentine's Day stories continues—gushy, mushy, off-beat and everything in between.

They say there are at least 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are probably more than 100 ways to meet one. Of course, some are funny stories. Some are ridiculous. Some are completely mushy. Regardless, Hillsborough Patch wants to hear them all. Interested in sharing? Email Editor Eileen.Oldfield@patch.com or call her at 908-552-9983 to set up an interview. We’ll feature the love stories as part of our Valetine’s Day coverage. Here’s what you need to know today:

Recovery, Post-Pigskin Bonanza

Do you call out after the Pigskin Bonanza (Super Bowl)?

The wings are now plates of bones.  The beer bottles are now empty.  And now, for NFL fans everywhere, starts the six long months of waiting for pre-season action to start.  The Monday following the Super Bowl has long been considered a day in which employers could count on many workers calling out after watching one of the most celebrated sporting events in the world.  This year, local business owners and managers should probably expect more call outs than usual, because of the NY (should be NJ) Giants involvement in the game. So, for those of you that managed to stay away from the workplace, there are a few things for you to do right here in Hillsborough. Here's what you need to know today:

Of all the commercials on the Super Bowl last night, my very favorite was one just before the 2-minute warning near the end of the game. It opened with a shot of a dog and an off-camera voice asking, "Who is that?" A second off-camera voice replied, "That's a rescue dog." The dog then proceeded to run around grabbing cans and bottles of Bud Light and giving them to various people, who smiled …   more ›

T-Minus 36 Hours Until Super Bowl

Pig Skin Bonanza, The Big Game. No matter what you call it, it's one day until the Super Bowl!

It is just a little over 24 hours away.  The Big Game. The Showdown in Colts-Town. The Pig Skin Bonanza in Indiana.  OK, no one is calling the Super Bowl any of those names, but perhaps they will one day.  NJ is the true home to the NY Giants, despite what their helmets read, and as such expect long lines at the grocery and liquor stores today, because as we all know, beer and chips and pretzels and beer and wings and beer and pizza and beer all go hand-in-hand with football. We at Patch remind you to drink responsibility and never drive while impaired.  Prior to the Pandemonium at Lucas Oil Stadium (you try rhyming something with Lucas Oil Stadium), be sure to get your future Lombardi Trophy hopefuls and their cheerleading counterparts …

Dinner Arrives, in Time for Thanksgiving

A thank-you from the Air Force goes to Woods Road School, as their care pack of dinners arrives in Afghanistan

If you read an article on the site last week, you know Woods Road Elementary students sent Thanksgiving dinner to a squadron of airmen serving in Afghanistan. Dinner arrived just in time for the holiday season, the school reported—they received a photo of their care packages from the base as well as a thank-you message from the Air Force's twitter account. The only appropriate words at this point? Great job, Woods Road Elementary! Here's what you need to know today: You Need to Know About Art: A Hillsborough Public Library program introduces four to six year olds to art and famous artists. The 10 a.m. program focuses on Impressionism and Pissarro, and the budding masters will create something to bring home during the session. You’ll need …
