Brandon Holt died after being shot in the head Monday night
A 6-year-old Toms River boy died Tuesday, a day after he was shot in the head by a 4 year old with a rifle. "It's a tragic thing that happened," said Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher Tuesday. "It's a terrible tragedy." Holt was in the yard of a McCormick Drive home when the 4 year old brought the .22 caliber rifle out from inside the house, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said. Mastronardy said the matter is under investigation, and any criminal action against the owner of the gun would have to be reviewed by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. The Tuesday shooting at a Franklin apartment complex that took the life of a man and a woman was a murder-suicide, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's office. Manuel Rodriguez, 50, shot his live-in girlfriend of nine years, Wilma Diaz, 34, inside their apartment before taking his own life, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said. Diaz, who had been transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in critical condition earlier on Tuesday subsequently died, according to Soriano. A reward is being offered in connection to a shooting authorities said critically injured one man and wounded another early Sunday morning outside of a restaurant in Franklin Township. Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said Tuesday a reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by Somerset County Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting. Soriano said the shooting took place outside of the restaurant at approximately 2:02 a.m. Sunday on Franklin Boulevard in the Somerset section of Franklin. Authorities are investigating a shooting outside of a Franklin Township restaurant that wounded two victims early Sunday morning, resulting in life-threatening injuries to one of them, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Somerset Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said the shooting took place outside of the restaurant at approximately 2:02 a.m. Sunday on Franklin Boulevard in the Somerset section of Franklin. Two victims were shot, according to police. One was a 31-year-old New Brunswick man who was treated and released from an area hospital, and the other was a 32-year-old Somerset man who is listed in critical condition at an area hospital, according to Soriano. Neighbors at the nearby Old Bridge apartments say he was recently returned from military duty in Afghanistan
A 23-year-old man, described by neighbors as a recent veteran of the Afghanistan war, shot and killed two co-workers at the Pathmark supermarket in Old Bridge early Friday morning, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan. Kaplan, who did not release the names of the alleged gunman or his two victims, said that all three were working an overnight shift at the store, when the suspect left at about 3:30 a.m. Shortly thereafter, at about 4 a.m., he returned and "entered the store, firing," Kaplan said, but apparently not targeting anyone in particular. "Two of the employees were shot and killed," Kaplan said. "The others were able to hide and escape." He said that 12 to 14 employees were in the store at the time of the shooting. …
