Another extension of deadline for New Jersey residents to seek federal aid for damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.
The deadline for those seeking federal aid for damage and losses incurred during last October 29's Sandy Storm again has been extended, with the new deadline set at April 1. The registration for possible aid, which was supposed to end Wednesday, Jan. 30, was extended before to March 1. To register, isit www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA. The latest extension was announced by Somerset County, and other governmental agencies. Bernardsville Borough's website also made note of the extension, adding, "We strongly recommend registering even if you are covered by insurance. Those who suffered losses due to Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey now have until January 30, 2013 to register for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management have announced. People with storm losses in all counties can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov or via smartphone or tablet at m.fema.gov. Somerset County residents can visit any of western state Disaster Recovery Centers.
As of this week, hours at offices in western New Jersey staffed by FEMA and New Jersey Office of Emergency Management staff are being reduced, and will be open on a rotating basis, according to an announcement from Somerset County. The Disaster Recovery Center office previously open in Somerset County is closed this week, to reopen on Monday, Dec. 3 for three days next week, according to the county. However, in an effort to continue serving Sandy disaster survivors, residents may visit any of the nine offices, including an office open Wednesday in Morris Plains. As of this week, all DRC services will be available on a rotating basis for a period of three days at a time in each of the fixed center locations already identified by the state. …

Somerset County announced on Monday that several county parks remain closed until further notice, although a few have reopened. Remaining closed are: Residents are asked to not attempt to visit these facilities as fallen trees and residual damage make the parks unsafe. Re-opening decisions will be made on a day-to-day basis, the announcement said. Open again as of Monday are: The Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater and Warrenbrook Golf Course in Warren Township are closed indefinitely. I agree with you. I trimmed my trees and so did my neighbors. we didn't have any lines down on our street. JCP&L came out the day after the storm and pulled our blade switch at the main phase so they could get the main phase back up. They didn't come back for 10 days to simply push our blade switch back up. That switch could have been pulled closer to the lines that were down over 2 miles up … more ›
