County issues alert as Sandy roars through area.
River Road between Amwell Road and the Elm Street Bridge in Hillsborough has been closed, according to an alert from Somerset County. The alert on the closure was issued at about 7:45 Monday night.
Single-car accident closed westbound lane on Tuesday night.
A single-car accident on River Road Tuesday evening between Beekman Lane and Roycefield Road caused serious damage to a car and closed down the westbound lane. The car involved overturned during the incident. However, despite the car being destroyed, police at the scene said that the three occupants were not seriously injured in the crash. The car was reportedly traveling west on River Road when the accident took place. The state and county had just announced this week that safety improvements will be made on the road with funding from the High Risk Rural Roads Program.

A mile-long segment of River Road in Hillsborough will be getting safety upgrades after funding for the project was approved by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority Board of Trustees on Monday. The announcement came just one day before a one-car accident took place on the road in which the vehicle flipped and was badly damaged. Improvements are set to include the application of anti-skid surface treatment, striping, rumble strips, and angled road edges that make it easier for vehicles to recover if they drift off the roadway. Painted markings on the road will also be added to provide additional visual cues to drivers to reduce their speed ahead of curves. Will reopen at noon following Basilone Run.
A portion of River Road will be closed during a four-hour period on Saturday morning. Hillsborough police issued an alert saying the road between Roycefield Road and the Basilone Bridge will be closed at 8 a.m. due to the Basilone Run. The road is scheduled to reopen at noon.
