The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Hillsborough resident Judd Mandell, who ran for Township Committee as an Independent on Nov. 6. I appreciate the process of elections and the right for each candidate to address the voters. It is always ultimately the voters choice to elect the candidate they see fit that adheres to their core values and will do their best for their town/district/state/ country. Here is a brief reflection on the nature of running a grassroots election. Hillsborough has a large group of unaffiliated voters that are seeking the best candidate, not status quo. My Independent base of 700 voters is a nice showing in terms of percentage of voters, as most of the country only votes 1 to 2 percent Independent. We…

Judd Mandell says his goal is to help township, not a political party.
Judd Mandell says the reason he is running for Hillsborough Township Committee as an independent is he doesn’t want to help Democrats or Republicans, but Hillsborough in general. “I am running as an independent because I have gone to planning, board of ed, as well as township committee meetings and I realize that they are doing a good job but not all residents are represented,” Mandell said. “I think we can do better in what I am trying to bring to Hillsborough to help increase their scope of vision. With my skill set of logistics and solution based thought, I can recognize additional opportunities and threats that they may not see now.” Mandell is attempting to gain election to one of two seats on the committee in November's election. He …

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Independent candidate for Hillsborough Township Committee Judd Mandell. As I knock on doors, attend local organizations meetings, speak to neighbors, and walk into Hillsborough businesses, the message is clear. Residents and business owners want the town to eliminate wasteful spending, reduce tax burdens in this flailing economy, and be more transparent about the town’s vision. These issues are consistent with state and national issues, and Hillsboroughs' residents, business people, and leaders should be able to give input and provide collaborative solutions. We are all responsible because we are all in this together. It is time for the Township Committee to look beyond the artificial …

The following is a Letter to the Editor from independent Township Committee Candidate Judd Mandell. The recent controversy between Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Suraci sheds light upon the true problem with partisan politics: it is ineffective for our town and detracts from focusing on real issues. As a candidate for Township Committee, I found it striking how challenging Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Suraci were with one another regarding the business administrator position. Mr. Ferrera may end up being the best Township Administrator we ever have, but the process of his appointment is questionable and raises concerns to town residents. As residents of this town, we are all responsible for how transparent our local government is because we are all in this…

Hillsborough voters have chosen two fine candidates, Mayor Suraci, to continue his service to the community and Greg Burchette, to begin as the newest member of the committee. My congratulations to both of them, to their election campaign for all their hard work and lastly, to the residents who have made their voices heard. What a wonderful testament to the great job this committe has done and …   more ›
