Republicans Carl Suraci and Greg Buchette swept to a victory in the race for two three-year seats on the Township Committee, according to the township's unofficial vote tally. Republicans maintain their 5-0 hold on the Township Committee. Suraci, now serving as mayor, received 8,598 votes while newcomer Buchette got 7,960 votes. Democrats Michael Goldberg and Jim Farley received 6,098 votes and 5,867.votes, respectively. Candidates Michael Goldberg and James Farley say they want to bring a bipartisan view to the board.
Michael Goldberg, the head of the Democratic committee and a candidate for Hillsborough Township Committee, says he is determined to bring a change to the committee and bring a better way of life to Hillsborough residents. “One of my goals is to provide a better way for people living in Hillsborough,” Goldberg said. “We are individuals, but we are also a community. Mayor Carl Suraci issued a statement on Wednesday responding to criticism from the pair of Democratic candidates running for Hillsborough Township Committee regarding the hiring of Anthony Ferrera as township administrator. The candidates, Michael Goldberg and James Farley, said they believe the hiring of the former mayor was done without a comprehensive search and because of his affiliation with the Republican party. Suraci in his statement said the township did not hire Ferrera hastily and that it was six weeks between the announced departure of former administrator Michael Merdinger and the hiring of Ferrera. Democratic Hillsborough Township Committee candidates Michael Goldberg and James Farley criticized what they called an accelerated hiring of former mayor Anthony Ferrera as township administrator. The pair, who are running against current Republican Mayor Carl Suraci and GOP candidate Greg Burchette, said the speed of which Ferrera was hired demonstrates a lack of comprehensive search to fill the position.
