Sweeney's 36 Saves Not Enough in Hillsborough Loss

Bridgewater scores late power-play goal to advance in Skyland Cup.

A power-play goal with less than two minutes remaining stopped the Hillsborough High team in a 1-0 loss to Bridgewater-Raritan Friday night in the first round of the Skyland Conference Cup at the Bridgewater Sports Arena. IN SHORT The game went through two full periods without a score. As the clock wore down in the third period, Bridgewater began mounting an advantage in the Hillsborough end. With just two  minutes to go, Hillsborough was called for a penalty. Panther captain David Monahan was guarded as he stood just outside the crease when the puck came to him and he slipped it past goalie Tim Sweeney with just 1:37 left in the game. Hillsborough Hockey Stopped by Ridge

Siegrist has strong game for Raiders in defeat.

The Hillsborough High School boys ice hockey team was kept off-balance in a 5-0 loss to Ridge Saturday night at Bridgewater Sports Arena. IN SHORT The Devils started the game quickly when Matt Zarabarra converted an Oliver Pelosa pass into a goal just 43 seconds into the game. Ryan Klingert scored a short-handed goal and Keith Knapp added another goal in the first period. Late in the second period, Ridge was down with two players in the penalty box, but was able to kill the penalties. Raiders Shut Out Central

Digerolamo and Bowers lead Hillsborough hockey team.

The Hillsborough High School hockey team, led by Chris Digerolamo and Bradley Bowers, defeated Hunterdon Central at Protec Ponds in Somerset Wednesday afternoon.   1st 2nd 3rd Final Hillsborough (3-2) 2 2 2 6 Hunterdon Central (2-6) 0 0 0 0 OVERVIEW Senior defenseman Chris Digerolamo scored on a power play just more than two-minutes into the game and the Raiders never looked back. The Raiders' fore check and neutral zone defense constantly forced the Red Devils into turnovers stepping into the passing lanes and intercepting errant passes. Midway through the period Bradley Bowers intercepted a pass and took it the length of the ice to put the Raiders up by two. “I saw an opportunity to jump into the play” said Bowers. Vitale's 2 Goals Propel Hillsborough Ice Hockey

Raiders skate to 4-1 victory over winless Hunterdon Central.

The Hillsborough ice hockey team dealt struggling Hunterdon Central its 11th loss of the season with a 4-1 win on Monday. Hillsborough improved to 6-2-1, while Hunterdon Central dropped to 0-11-1. Senior forward Alex Vitale netted two goals for the Raiders. His first goal came in the second period at 10:24 and was assisted by sophomore Bradley Bowers. Vitale notched his second goal in the game in the final minute of the game, sending the puck into an empty net after Hunterdon Central pulled its goalie. Vitale is the Raiders' leading scorer with 13 points this season. Senior forward Craig Ismalli got Hillsborough off to a fast start scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. Hillsborough Ices Bridgewater, 4-2

Scoreless game opens up in second period.

The game was scoreless through the first 24 minutes, but the Hillsborough High School ice hockey team broke through to beat Bridgewater 4-2 Friday night at Protec Hockey Ponds Ice Rink. Hillsborough drew first blood when captain Mike Laneve scored at 8:30 of the period with assists by Craig Ismaili and Bradley Bowers. Just 17 seconds later, Raider Alex Wizna scored the second goal. Wizna scored again in the 12th minute of the period. The game stayed 3-0 until the 14th minute of the third period when Matt Liebers scored for Bridgewater-Raritan.  Just 36 seconds later, David Monahan added a goal to bring the score to 3-2. In an attempt to tie the game, Bridgewater pulled its goalie in the final minute of play. The Raiders stopped the push …
