Homestead Road to Re-open Friday, DOT Says
Road closed since April for bypass construction.
NJDOT officials announced that Homestead Road is scheduled to be reopened to traffic between Route 206 and Willow Road Friday afternoon. Homestead Road Road had been closed at this location since April 2012 for local roadway work associated with the construction of the new Route 206 Bypass. NJDOT’s contractor, Carbro Inc., has replaced the Homestead Road bridge superstructure over the CSX railroad tracks and reconstructed portions of Hillsborough Road to accommodate the new bypass that is being built. Construction began in August 2010 on the $43 million first contract to build a portion of the bypass between Hillsborough Road and Amwell Road. Downed Light Snarls Route 206 Traffic
Motor vehicle accident causes heavy delays Tuesday morning.
A downed traffic light caused by a motor vehicle accident left heavy traffic delays on Route 206 Tuesday morning, according to the Hillsborough Police Department. The accident took place in the area of Homestead Road according to an alert issued through Nixle at 7:51 a.m. on Tuesday. The accident appeared to be a single-car accident involving a gray Ford. The traffic light pole was snapped at the base, with the light resting along the road. Police told motorists to expect heavy delays while the situation was being tended to.

One Road Opens, Another Closes as Bypass Rolls On
A few days after Hillsborough Road re-opens, Homestead Road shut down for six months.
After being closed for about two years, Hillsborough Road between Route 206 and Willow Road re-opened Friday, just days before Homestead Road was shut down for the next six months. Homestead Road closed Monday between Route 206 and Willow Road as the new Route 206 bypass project continues. Access in this area can be made to and from Stryker Lane, Hillsborough Police said. The bypass project broke ground in 2010 and is now not expected to be completed until at least 2017, township officials said earlier this month. The bypass is designed to carry Route 206 around an older stretch of the state roadway to improve traffic flow and to allow the township to create a town center along the old Route 206. Road to nowhere. Should have fixed the "S" curve at the southern end of town and been done with it. Used the money instead for widening route 206, creating better access to existing shopping, improving parking, planting trees and renovating storefronts (with low interest loans), building more parks and recreation facilities, etc. The town center is laughable. I can't believe that for the amount of time Homestead Road was closed they didn't even re-pave it. Going over the new bridge they did create is like riding on a lop sided roller coaster! more ›
