One Road Opens, Another Closes as Bypass Rolls On

A few days after Hillsborough Road re-opens, Homestead Road shut down for six months.

After being closed for about two years, Hillsborough Road between Route 206 and Willow Road re-opened Friday, just days before Homestead Road was shut down for the next six months. Homestead Road closed Monday between Route 206 and Willow Road as the new Route 206 bypass project continues. Access in this area can be made to and from Stryker Lane, Hillsborough Police said. The bypass project broke ground in 2010 and is now not expected to be completed until at least 2017, township officials said earlier this month. The bypass is designed to carry Route 206 around an older stretch of the state roadway to improve traffic flow and to allow the township to create a town center along the old Route 206. Road to nowhere. Should have fixed the "S" curve at the southern end of town and been done with it. Used the money instead for widening route 206, creating better access to existing shopping, improving parking, planting trees and renovating storefronts (with low interest loans), building more parks and recreation facilities, etc. The town center is laughable.
