Police alert says highway was reopened at about 6:40 p.m. on Monday.

PSE&G was seen arriving to the area at approximately 5:45 p.m. The company's outage map reported between one and 500 customers without power in the township as of 6:45 p.m. Hillsborough police issued an alert at 6:38 p.m. saying the highway was reopened in both directions.

5-Foot Python Found on Hillsborough Street

Police believe it was a pet released by owner. It was captured and given to animal control.

CENTRAL NJ -- Local police found a 5-foot ball python, a non-venomous snake that is popular as a pet, in Hillsborough, NJ on Tuesday afternoon. Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:30 p.m. of a large snake on a sewer grate at the location. Detective Hank Olszyk, who is familiar with snakes, determined the species of the snake and that it was non-venomous. The 5-foot snake was transported from the corner of Williamsburg Drive and Wexford Place to police headquarters in a paper bag. It was then picked up by local animal control. Police believe the reptile, which is native to Africa, was likely released by an owner who no longer wanted it, as it is a common pet species.
