NHL labor troubles may help local players gain fans.
While the National Hockey League cancels games because of deadlocked labor contract talks, local fans of the sport are considering other options—such as Hillsborough High School varsity hockey. The team's season begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Woodbridge Community Center, with the team taking on Edison in the season opener. "Another friend who is also a big hockey fan mentioned to me he is going to watch high school and college hockey and to hell with the NHL guys this year!" one varsity parent said. Digerolamo and Bowers lead Hillsborough hockey team.
The Hillsborough High School hockey team, led by Chris Digerolamo and Bradley Bowers, defeated Hunterdon Central at Protec Ponds in Somerset Wednesday afternoon. 1st 2nd 3rd Final Hillsborough (3-2) 2 2 2 6 Hunterdon Central (2-6) 0 0 0 0 OVERVIEW Senior defenseman Chris Digerolamo scored on a power play just more than two-minutes into the game and the Raiders never looked back.
