Candidate Slated to Speak at Next Democratic Alliance Meeting

Club sets dinner meetings, book discussions.

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance welcomed Detective Sgt. Doug Brownlie from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Public Information Office, as guest speaker at the April 3 Alliance monthly meeting,  just prior to a very successful Somerset County gun buy-back weekend.    Sgt. Brownlie gave an excellent presentation not only about the gun buyback program, but also answered questions about other law enforcement and safety issues such as local suicide rates and teen drug use.  The Prosecutor’s Office is very pro-active in understanding root causes for many juvenile and  adult crimes and delivered a really well prepared, non-partisan and interesting presentation.  After watching the events unfold in Boston last week, it’s ever so important …

Democratic Alliance Meets Wednesday

Local group also plans book club discusison Feb. 28.

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance is off to a strong start in 2013, and is moving forward with programming in February.   The regular monthly meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road.  After hearing two terrific speakers in the past two months, Charlie Kratovil from New Brunswick Today and Heather Taylor from Citizens Campaign,  the membership will be synthesizing what has been presented with President Obama’s agenda for 2013, and discussing the political landscape locally, statewide and nationally, in order to plan this year’s activities.  The meeting is also a good chance to meet and socialize with Democrats and other progressives in Hillsborough.  Refreshments are provided at …

Democratic Alliance Meetings to Include Speakers, Books and Inauguration

Group plans weekly meetings through January.

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance is off to a strong start in 2013, and is moving forward with several interesting events in January.  Focusing on governmental transparency and accountability, the Alliance provides all participants with an opportunity to discuss the issues facing Hillsborough, Somerset County, New Jersey, and the nation as a whole. Members can become civically engaged in any area of concern, including charitable causes, economics, environment, and education, among others. HHS Alum Charlie Kratovil to Speak at Democratic Alliance Meeting

Wednesday meeting will feature activist, online news editor.

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance will be holding its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 5th, 2012 at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road, starting at 6:45 p.m. Interested and potential members are welcome to attend. The guest speaker will be Charlie Kratovil, editor of the online newspaper New Brunswick Today (www.newbrunswicktoday.com). He is an investigative reporter, community organizer, leader of successful citizen campaigns affecting municipal and school governance, and challenger on the influence of money in politics. He was previously the North Jersey Coordinator for Citizens Campaign and a consultant for Food and Water Watch, and still leads Empower Our Neighborhoods in New Brunswick.
