Controversial Drug Rehab Proposal Withdrawn

Plan for center on Route 206 faced stiff opposition from residents.

A residential drug rehabilitation center proposal by Harding Corona for Route 206 has been withdrawn, the Hillsborough Planning Department confirmed Wednesday. The proposal called for the construction of five buildings, totaling 34,115 square feet, on a lot located just north of the inersection of Old Somerville Road and Route 206. While the facility would have been built by Harding Corona, Gen Psych, of Bridgewater, planned to operate the facility.  Gen Psych officials could not be reached for comment on the withdrawal of the plans, however, the proposal was met with opposition by neighbors of the area. "I suspect that they did not want to continue their efforts here, given the vocal and unified opposition by the residents of Hillsborough…

I think the point regarding availability of substance abuse facilities cannot be overstated. We HAVE a facility equipped which helps thousands of patients a year in both detoxification and rehabilitation, inpatient and intensive outpatient. I'm referring to Carrier Clinic, of course. Couple Carrier with Princeton House and you have over 10k individuals helped each year on a 10 mile stretch of 206…   more ›

Do Drug Rehab Center's Potential Clients Concern You?

After hearing discussion at Thursday's Planning Board meeting, what do you think?

To hear the consultants for Harding Corona's proposed 56-bed residential drug rehab treatment center tell it at Thursday's Planning Board meeting, the center will be an idyllic spa, filled with recuperating executives. To hear residents living near the proposed center, it will be filled with criminals seeking to take advantage of the center and nearby residents. What do you think? In her testimony at the meeting, drug counselor Georgette Jungels said the center will only admit "high-functioning" clients, primarily from among pain-killer addicted "business and executive people." She said a typical stay will cost from $30,000 to $40,000, and the center will teach coping skills, such as yoga, tai chi and art therapy. But when pressed by …

This facility is just up the road from Andria way. It will be the first thing that is seen as you enter the "town "center" environs. Sign "GenPsych Drug Rehab Center" That's what we need to see coming into town. 400 meters from Town Center. The first major buildings that are seen and it's a drug treatment facility. That's how I want to advertise my town.   more ›

Drug Rehab Center Plan Raises Safety Concerns

Flanders Drive residents remain worried about proposed facility for Route 206.

The three hours of testimony Thursday night in front of the Hillsborough Planning Board by the drug rehabilitation expert hired by the facility proposed for Route 206 failed to soften nearby residents' opposition. The board will continue the hearing on Harding Corona LLC's proposed 56-bed long-term rehabilitation facility Feb. 7, with testimony on planned security and business operations to bolster the testimony given Thursday by counselor Georgette Jungels, of Millington. Jungels, who is contracted with Bridgewater-based GenPsyche, provided an overview of the licensing requirements for such facilities, as well as the treatment program planned for the location. According to her statements, a license to operate a residential facility that …

As a professional in the behavioral health field, the following is my take on the meeting in Hillsborough. The Gen Psych presentation was disingenuous. This facility is not offering anything different than other New Jersey facilities such as Princeton House, Carrier, Seabrook, Sunrise, Endeavor House, and Summit. The length of stay will be the same as the other facilities because they are …   more ›

Drug Rehab Center Plan a Concern for Residents

Online petition launched in hopes of stopping proposal by Harding Corona LLC.

Sometime later this week, members of the Hillsborough Planning Board may receive a certified letter from residents living near the proposed Harding Corona LLC drug rehabilitation facility on Route 206, as those residents step up their pressure on the township to block the project. The board will continue its hearing on the proposed facility, located on the east side of Route 206 at the intersection of Old Somerville Road, on Dec. 6. The facility proposed totals 34,115-square feet in five buildings for residential drug rehabilitation treatment, reduced from an earlier concept plan that was not intended to be a residential facility, but totalled 73,000-square feet in two buildings. About a dozen residents living near the area attended the …

Proposed Psychiatric Facility's Size Cut Significantly

Neighbors are concerned about impact of 56-bed building planned for Route 206.

A hearing will continue in December on a plan to build a 56-bed extended care psychiatric facility near the intersection of Route 206 and Somerville Road. More than a dozen Flanders Drive residents came to the Planning Board on Thursday evening to ask questions and express concerns about the plans by Harding Corona LLC to build the facility that is now less than half of the size that was originally proposed in January 2011. Jessica Sweet, attorney for Harding Corona, said her client will meet with neighbors before the Dec. 6 meeting to answer their questions and listen to their input. The testimony on Thursday focused on the project’s engineering on the 8.9-acre site in the township’s Highway Service zone just to the south of Doctors Way …

Committed drug addicts are not voluntary psychiatric patients. They are a danger to themselves and those around them. They do not belong in a residential neighborhood.   more ›
