Suraci, beginning fourth term, says no 'loopholes' in budget process.

Burchette was sworn into office by State Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, a township resident. Suraci, beginning his fourth term, was given the oath of office by State. Sen. GOP Candidates Want to Bring 'Business-Like' Approach

Mayor Carl Suraci is joined by Greg Burchette, who is running in the spot left by Bob Wagner.

When the Hillsborough delegation of the Somerset County Republican Committee made its selection in June to replace current Committeeman Bob Wagner on the November ballot, Greg Burchette was the man chosen. Burchette says it is something he knew he wanted for quite some time. “I have always wanted to run for committee,” Burchette said. “I was planning on doing it after Carl Suraci or Bob Wagner finished. Once Bob took a job with the state, I told them I wanted to do it and they appointed me to the position.” A look at the campaigns of Democratic candidates Michael Goldberg and James Farley can be found here. A look at the campaign of Independent candidate Judd Mandell can be found here. He said he has learned a lot from others, as well as …

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Republican candidates for Township Council Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette.  To the editor: This is the fifth of our weekly letters to discuss topics of interest to highlight accomplishments and to address our vision for Hillsborough’s future. This week’s topic is fiscal responsibility and what we have done to limit the size and cost of local government, while maintaining the level of services Hillsborough residents expect and deserve.  Hillsborough is the most efficiently run local government in our area. This is supported by the 2012 Hillsborough Township CFO Report which includes a comparison of per capita spending with our neighboring townships. Hillsborough spends the least per capita…

GOP Candidates: Commitment to Preservation Important

Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette give their thoughts on open space and farmland in the township.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Republican candidates for Township Council Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette.  To the editor:  This is the fourth of our weekly letters to discuss topics of interest to highlight accomplishments and to address our vision for Hillsborough’s future. This week’s topic is open space and farmland preservation. We all benefit from the preservation of farmlands and open space. Local farms provide fresh food at a reasonable cost. Farms and open space keep property taxes down (by not being converted to houses and burdening our infrastructure and school system), and protect scenic vistas, quality of life, and property values throughout the Township. They also preserve the environment; open space …

Says strong rec department, emphasis on preserving open space part of why he is voting for pair running for committee.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Hillsborough resident Frederick Gladstone.  Dear Editor I am writing this letter to ask voters to consider voting for Mayor Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette. Mayor Suraci has done an outstanding job, along with the Township Committee, in making Hillsborough a wonderful place to live. Our recreation department is second to none and we have strong senior citizen programs in place including providing transportation to senior citizen meetings held right in the municipal building. I have also been very impressed with Mr. Burchette. Mr. Burchette is a local business owner and has worked as Chairman of the Planning Board. He has demonstrated his commitment to civic responsibilities. As Planning …

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Republican candidates for Township Council Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette.  To the editor: This is the third of our weekly letters to discuss specific topics of interest to highlight some of the accomplishments the Republican-led Township Committee has achieved over the years, and to address our vision for Hillsborough’s future. This week’s topic is the successful efforts to make local government more customer-friendly, open and transparent for Hillsborough residents. Eliminating the no-bid contracts that previously characterized the local government professional vendor process has been a key step. GOP Candidates Get Suport of Former Deputy Mayor

Letter to the Editor from Lisa Nisivoccia mentions business relations as a strength of candidates.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by former Deputy Lisa Nisivoccia.  I plan on voting for Mayor Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette for Township Committee in this election. Having served with Mayor Suraci and working with Mr. Burchette, I know that both are businessmen and understand those actions necessary to promote business in Hillsborough. Hillsborough has an excellent working relationship with the business community in no small part due to the municipal administration's outreach to the businesses. The work of the Economic Business Development Commission (EBDC) and the fact that our local officials are always present at such meetings helps businesses in Hillsborough grow and prosper. Small businesses provide the vast majority…

Former Administrator Puts Support Behind Burchette

Cites Township Committee candidate's leadership to other organizations.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by former Hillsborough Township Administrator Mike Merdinger.  To the Editor: I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing Greg Burchette for many years. I have been a colleague of his at the Hillsborough Planning Board, the Hillsborough Municipal Utilities Authority and Hillsborough Rotary. He has demonstrated his compassion, integrity, dedication and leadership in all of these organizations. Greg applies his business acumen and experience to his volunteerism. He is one of the most dedicated, hard-working and honest persons that I know. In addition, Greg is devoted to his family; wife Sella and son Jared. He has been a active part of the Hillsborough community for many years. Greg has a …
