Somerset GOP Celebrates Wins, Leads

With some races still too close to call, county Republicans got together at the Somerville Elks Club.

Somerset County Republicans came together Tuesday night at the Somerville Elks Club to celebrate election day and the end of their campaigns. For some, like District 7 Congressman Leonard Lance (R), the vote margin by the end of the night was large enough for multiple reports to call the election in his favor. For others, like incumbent Freeholders Patrick Scaglione and Mark Caliguire, as well as District 16 Assemblywoman Donna Simon, their slim leads coupled with provisional and fax or email ballots still to be counted, the victories were still not stamped Tuesday evening. However, each candidate celebrated what they believed to be victories with each other at the Elks Club. "We need to work together in a bi-partisan manor to solve our …

District 16 Assembly Race Too Close to Call

Report says Simon held small lead over Corfield.

With provisional and email or fax votes playing havoc in many municipalities, counties and districts throughout the state on Tuesday, one of the many races that was too close to call at the end of election day appeared to be the District 16 Assembly race.  Incumbent Donna Simon (R) held a slight lead over Democratic challenger Marie Corfield, according to a report on MyCentralJersey.com. After Sandy displaced thousands of New Jersey residents, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno signed an order allowing voters to submit a mail-in ballot application by email or fax. That has made things more uncertain than usual at the end of election day in many cases.  The deadline for electronic voting had been extended after email and fax ballots caused headaches …

Simon-Sponsored Tax Bill Positive, Resident Says

Hillsborough woman says she supports proposed property-tax credit, assemblywoman.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Hillsborough resident Helen Haines.  Dear Editor: I was happy to read that Donna Simon, our assemblywoman, is sponsoring a bill that will give us an immediate 10 percent credit on our property taxes. She got support from Democrats and Republicans for her tax cut proposal because her priority is to get results, which is refreshing at a time when everyone seems engaged in partisan bickering. New Jersey needs to be more affordable and we have to change our reputation as the highest taxed state in the nation. I congratulate Assemblywoman Simon for keeping her promise that property tax relief would be her first priority. I am supporting Donna Simon in November because she gets it, she knows …
