Ordinance Proposes Increase in Dog License Fees

111 percent increase in animal control costs necessitates fee change.

An ordinance before the Hillsborough Township will increase its dog license fees from the $7 set in 1991 to $14.80 in 2011 and $19.80 in 2012, in response to increases in the cost of animal control services. A public hearing on the dog license fee will be held on Dec. 28. St. Hubert's Giralda, of North Branch, which handles animal control services for the town, informed the township that the animal control costs are expected to rise from $60,000 in 2010 to $87,338 in 2011, to $106,746 in 2012 and to $126,155 in 2013, necessitating the fee change. Sorry I am seeing this so late. I would have suggested that they increase the fees to the maximum allowed for animals that are NOT spayed or neutered. There are many places that have higher fees for this and it includes from licensing to fines for infractions with an intact animal. Sadly, one encounter between two dogs that are not fixed, can lead to many puppies. Same goes for cats. I think it's…   more ›
