Police say southbound stretch opened earlier than had been expected on Thursday.
After construction closed a section of Route 206 southbound in Hillsborough for hours on Thursday morning, causing major traffic delays, police said both lanes had been reopened. Hillsborough police, however, said to expect delays in the area to continue when the department sent an alert at 11:45 a.m. saying the lane was reopened. The replacement of a telephone pole on the road at the railroad bridge just north of Old Champlain Road was causing major delays in both directions during morning hours. The southbound lane between Old Camplain Road and Brown Avenue was closed, resulting in north and southbound traffic having to share the single southbound lane. There could be some good news for those who wish to use Wertsville Road between Amwell Road and Long Hill Road. The stretch, which has been closed since July 10 due to bridge work, may be opening earlier than originally forecast. A construction projects update released on the Somerset County website said an early completion of the project is anticipated at the beginning of October. The duration of the closure was set to last 124 days, according to the announcement. A detour has been in effect, as work is being done to replace three bridges, with one being closed at a time.

Construction on Hamilton Road will begin on Wednesday and continue for about two weeks, according to the Hillsborough Township Police Department. The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, according to an alert from the department. Police say residents should expect delays and are asked to plan accordingly until work is completed.

State, Port Authority warn of "significant" eastbound delays because of Cross Bronx bridge repairs, urge drivers to use mass transit, and to expect bus delays into the city through Labor Day.
This summer could be remembered as a traffic hell by the millions of people who travel east over the George Washington Bridge thanks to the closure of a lane on the oft-congested Cross Bronx Expressway from this Friday through Labor Day. The lane closure will take place on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge, which spans the Harlem River and connects Manhattan to the Bronx. The bridge is already a chokepoint, as traffic from both levels of the GWB merge onto one roadway. Several other significant roadways feed into and out of the span, including the Harlem River Drive and Major Deegan Expressway.
