Sounds of the Season: Grand Staff Ensemble Presents its Annual Holiday Concert

Teachers, students, family and friends unite to perform seasonal tunes

Music of the season filled Auten Road School Tuesday night as the Grand Staff Music Ensemble presented its eleventh annual holiday concert. The 25-plus member ensemble is made up of district teachers, both current and retired, music instructors and teachers of other subjects, students, family and friends. With a stage decorated with a Christmas tree, candy canes and snowflakes, the Grand Staff performed a wide range of seasonal selections, including excerpts from such classics as "The Nutcracker," "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "Hanukkah Begins Tonight." The program also provided some new twists on old favorites, as the ensemble had audience members' toes tapping with the Latin-inspired "Deck the Halls with Chips and Salsa" and "We Wish …

Grand Staff Ensemble Hosts Holiday Show

Annual concert supports a scholarship for a high school senior pursuing music in college.

The Hillsborough Grand Staff ensemble is made up of staff and friends of the Hillsborough School District under the direction of Nancy Gallagher & Gary Smith.  Their annual holiday concert will be held at 7:00 p.m.  December 21, 2010 at Auten Road Intermediate School.  Suggested donations at the door are $5.00 adults, $2.00 students/seniors (55+), or $10.00 for a family.  All proceeds from the concert are awarded to a high school senior planning to pursue a degree in music. The evening will also serve as a Ronald McDonald House toy donation drop off location for the fourth year.  New unwrapped toys and gifts are welcome.  This tradition was started by former Grand Staff member and 2009 Hillsborough High School band alumni Andrew Robbins. …

Five Things You Should Know This Week

Gardening workshops, government and Board of Education meetings, concerts and a lot of high school sports.

1..The Board of Education will have its work meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m.  Budget season isn't for a few months, but the public is invited to share their thoughts on what should be included and what shouldn't.  The meeting is in the Auten Road Intermediate School Cafetorium. 1.5.  The Township Committee meets Tuesday at 7:30 p.m, in the Municipal Courtroom. View the agenda here. 2.  Hillsborough High School's sports teams have games throughout the week.  See the schedules here. 3. The Hillsborough High School bands, orchestra, and choirs have concerts at the high school this week.  The band concert is Tuesday at 7 p.m., and the orchestra concert is Wednesday at 7 p.m. Admission is free, so enjoy the free music. 4.
