As the smallest town in Somerset County, Millstone Borough has many of its services—including schools, police andMore emergency services—with neighboring Hillsborough Township and Franklin Township. Children living in Millstone attend Hillsborough Township schools, while the Franklin Township Police or the New Jersey State Police handle incidents and emergencies in town. Still, Millstone Borough has its own six-member Borough Council, a Board of Health, a Planning Board, a Recreation Commission, a Senior Citizen's Advisory Board, and other offices.

Housed in the Hillsborough Municipal Building, the Hillsborough Police Department serves and protects the town'sMore residents. With about 55 sworn officers and 14 civilian employees, the department has divisions for patrolling the township, investigating crimes, police reports, and traffic safety.

The department uses Nixle alerts for road closures, and the "A Child is Missing" alert notification system network to locate missing children. It also sponsors community outreach events, including its Bike Safety Rodeo, a two-ball basketball tournament and other events.

Police Chief Paul Kaminsky leads the department.
