How to Get Fit Without Joining a Gym

Strap on your pedometer, grease up your baby stoller, and hit the road for a workout that will take your breath away!

As the deputy editor of FITNESS Magazine, Mary Anderson has her finger on the pulse of the latest workout trends. But what she really craves is running outdoors. “It’s just not the same on a treadmill—I get inspired by the outdoors, whereas I cover the treadmill’s digital readout with my towel!”  And with good reason: Fitness experts widely agree that seeing greenery while working out reduces stress and can improve performance. Yet only 22 percent of women exercise outside of the gym, according to a recent Women’s Health survey. With some creative planning, you can skip the gym—including the monthly payments and the wait lists for hot yoga—and hit the road (or laundry room) for some serious conditioning. Here are some ways to get fit …

Hillsborough High Graduation May Move to Trenton

2014 event may be held at arena to accommodate larger number of grads, relatives.

In 2014, the Hillsborough High School graduation may not be in Hillsborough. Instead, commencement may be 24 miles away in Trenton at the Sun National Bank Arena. That’s the recommendation of the school board’s operations committee which had studied the possibility of alternate sites for graduation for two years, board member Greg Gillette said at Monday’s meeting. In recent years, the school district has been cursed with inclement and extreme weather conditions, Gillette said. But the district could not accommodate moving the ceremony inside because of the size of the graduating class (about 600 students) and the number of relatives and friends, he added. Gillette said the district explored multiple options to try and keep the graduation …

Legislation awaits Gov. Chris Christie's signature.

Bipartisan legislation was approved Monday to dedicate the Route 206 bypass to late Assemblyman Peter Biondi. The legislation was sponsored by Sen. Point Pleasant is pretty reasonably prices, specifically Jenkinson's. Even on weekends, kids under 5 are free, kids 5-11 are only $2, and anyone over 12 is $9. That's cheaper than going to the movies, plus you can bring your own food (which technically isn't allowed at movie theaters, even if people sneak candy in sometimes).
