The Sunnymead Elementary School, one of Hillsborough's six elementary schools, houses grades K through 4 in a building that opened in 1959. In addition to the regular grades, the school has a transitional primary class for students that completed kindergarten but are not ready for first grade. Students at the school study literacy arts, including reading, writing, spelling and handwriting, math, science, social studies, art, music, foreign language, health and physical education.
The school also has a gifted program named REACH (Reach and Explore Academic and Creative Heights), a child study team and academic skills instruction for students who need additional support. Special events at the school include Young Author's Day and the Continental Math League, and attempt to integrate the curriculum with an activity.
Tammy Jenkins is the school's principal, and the school mascot is the Husky.
