5 Top 'Feel Good' Stories in 2013

It's not all bad news in Hillsborough—here are five stories we enjoyed bringing to you.

Some people are heard complaining about all the troubling stories they see in the news, and we're often left scratching our heads: it's seldom more than a few days go by without a story about a great success by some local student, or a fundraiser collecting thousands for someone in need is posted.

Over the course of the year, we've had the opportunity to post quite a few stories just sure left us feeling good—and here are five of our favorites:

Veterans Get a Salute at Triangle School

The annual Veterans Day program at Triangle School is always highlighted by the family members who are honored—but it was touching to watch some of the older veterans hugging their grandchildren.

Husband, Wife Team Helps Those in Need

Patch is designed to help readers add to the great content on the site—and one of our favorite stories submitted this year came from reader Lauren Briede, who shared the story of Courtney and Mike Newman's efforts to launch a non-profit aimed at helping local families facing medical problems. We've enjoyed reporting on some of the projects the Newman's Steps Together project has helped, too, such as their efforts to help Billy Biviano.

Hillsborough a 'Top Town' in NJ, Magazine Says

This story followed one noting Hillsborough was placed at no. 16 on Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live" list.

Families Enjoying Night Under The Stars

Watching hundreds of Hillsborough families playing, laughing, dancing and just generally enjoying a beautiful summer night was certainly a "feel good" story to cover—and still brings a smile (and anxious anticipation for next year's Family Camp-Out, sponsored by the township Rec Department).

88th Birthday Celebrated at the Gym

Mary Moorehead was all business when she went to Fit 'n Firm, in the Mountainview Plaza, for her usual hour-long workout on her July 9 birthday—but her friends at the center had other plans.
