Each week, Patch brings you an idea of something to do to enjoy some free time for yourself, or with friends and family. Here is this week's choice:

Have you ever joined a 60-year tradition in the Somerset Hills area that lets you poke among antiques in a quaint setting, enjoy home-cooking that will warm even a firefighter's heart, and also raise money for the Pottersville Fire Department.

One of the coolest local summer events for you and your family is coming this week, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, starting on Thursday and continuing through this Saturday — the 60th Annual Pottersville Antique Show and Country Dining event to be held in the village of Pottersville, where Bedminster Township meets Hunterdon County.

Dozens of local Pottersville volunteers again will extend a warm country welcome this year, as usual offering nice things to buy and good food to eat.

Anyone who comes by for dinner on Thursday evening can enjoy live traditional and bluegrass music by members of local favorite Hub Hollow musicians.

Dealers from throughout the tri-state area again will display their wares in the red firehouse and the adjacent yellow school house. Items, to mention a few, will include pottery, textiles, prints, postcards, posters, jewelry of all kinds, porcelain, collectibles, furniture, clocks, and vintage home furnishings.

In addition, appraisers will be available at the small tent from 1 to 5 p.m. daily and also from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, to evaluate valuables brought in by show patrons at a charge of $5 per item.

Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily and includes a variety of sandwiches ranging from grilled chicken and BLT’s to Fireman Burger specialties.

A buffet style dinner is served daily from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday’s dinner is roast ham with raisin sauce; rounds of roast beef au jus on Friday; and, on Saturday, breast of turkey with sausage firehouse stuffing.

Combination desserts include your selection from freshly sliced peaches, ice creams and homemade cakes. The meals are served under the big tent in in the firehouse engine barn. Prices are $17 for adults, $16 for seniors and $8.50 for children under 10.

Refreshments are available at the desserts and refreshments counter all day.
Admission to food tent area is free.

Detailed information is online.

The little village of Pottersville, a hidden gem in the heart of the Somerset Hills, can feel like being transported to a bygone era. In the late 1800’s, folks rode the Rockaway Railroad line into the sleepy village to picnic alongside the Black River.

Today, visitors enjoy the charms of the area on bicycles and cars and occasionally in a horse-drawn carriage. To reach the site, head to Route 206 north from Lamington Road/Route 202 in Bedminster at the Shell Station. Proceed 4.5 miles and turn left on Route 512/Pottersville Road.

Continue two miles until seeing signs for the show and parking. General admission to the shw and parking. General admission to the show is $6 per person.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Pottersville Volunteer Fire Company. For more details about the show, please call 908-883-0002 prior to the show dates or call 908-439-2544 during the show.
