Cheerleaders, Serious About Nationals, Plan Comedy Night

It's no joke: you can help send the Hillsborough High School competition cheerleaders to the national finals in February.

Hillsborough High School's competitive cheerleading team earned a spot in the upcoming UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship at ESPN World at Disney, in Orlando, Fla., in December—but to go, the team needs to raise some funds to help cover the expenses.

Which is no laughing matter: the trip will require travel costs, hotel stays and food for the team. If there is a lighter side to whole affair, it's the upcoming benefit comedy night, set for Jan. 18 at the Hillsborough-Manville Elks Lodge, on Brooks Boulevard.

The event will include three comedians—Mark New, who also appeared at last month's wine and comedy event at Temple Beth El, Bob DiBuono and comedic chiropractor Tim Hayes.

Hayes won the Sarcasm Comedy Competition in 2011 and has also appeared at some of the top venues in the tri-state area including Gotham Broadway and other stand-up clubs in New York City where he talks about his other life as a chiropractor and other life topics.

New is an accomplished comedian and host who has appeared at the major comedy clubs on the East Coast including: Gotham Comedy Club, Stand-Up NY, The Comedy Shoppe, Broadway Comedy Club, Eastville Comedy Club, Time Square Comedy Club, Joker’s Wild, Helium Comedy Club, Comedy Cove and the Stress Factory.
