Celebrate the History of the Delaware and Raritan Canal

Displays and a presentation highlight canal's history in November at the Hillsborough Public Library.

The Delaware and Raritan Canal followed the Erie Canal by a few years, but arguably was more important to interstate trade—shipping between New York and Philadelphia was enhance by the canal, as well as New Jersey's reputation as the Garden State.

Built in the 1830s, the Delaware and Raritan Canal is a rich source of New Jersey history—Canal author and historian Linda Barth will introduce you to the people, the bridges, the locks, and the aqueducts that made the canal work at special library presentation at 2 p.m. Nov. 9.

You can also learn more about the canal with every visit to the library in November—a special "History of the Delaware & Raritan Canal Exhibit" will be on display through the month.
